when dbl towing there cant be any way of backing up is there?
Nice looking rig we are young in 30s have plans of going full time in 20-25 years with 5er or Class A I wonder what they will be selling us then? I do like the I dea of towing the trailer instead of the car also maintainance on a Class A scares me.
Have a good one

Very common here in Colorado, where it is legal to do so. In many states it is legal but you should always check with the state for their specific regulations. Colorado is 70ft overall, with brakes on trailer over 3000lbs. I am at 67ft and the boat/trailer comes in at around 2800. I am under all weight ratings when towing double (not triple, Skip! :D ) and hardly know the boat is back there. It was nerve wracking the first time I did it, but it's second nature now.

Sure, it takes some practice though - the "steer in reverse" thing that everybody learns while backing up a trailer goes out the window as you now have two pivot points to work with, so you once again steer the traditional way (as you would while not towing) while backing up again. Once the pup starts to go the way you want it, THEN you revert to revers steering again to chase the lead trailer around and keep the pup going where you want it. It's a fine dance you need to play that can take quite a bit of time to master. Once you get it though, you can backup doubles fairly easily.

A long time back I pulled a small fishing boat behind one of my small campers. If you want to see a few impressed people, pull into a campground and back yourself into a site with both trailers attached. :D

This is what I was hauling at a company I worked for about 10 years back - similar configuration to twin RV's, but a whole lot more weight at about 145,000#'s gross. It's what I learned to pull doubles on.

I guess you haven't heard the latest news.....New York state is implementing a "double trailer certificate" on your drivers license for towing double. In order to get the tab on your license you have to take a driving test. Not much to it though, all you have to do is parallel park :D

I like the way your 5th goes over the cab of the truck, I bet that helps with wind drag.

This is the design of the Glendale Titanium. They say that it improves gas milage but I'm not so sure. May help a little but I've nothing to compare it to since this is our first 5th Wheel. The design does provide a little more space in the bedroom. This is a 33 footer but tows like a 28' trailer. We have been very happy with it. Now I just have to figure out how to carry 2 kayaks on the roof of the truck.

If the kayaks are fiberglass or Kevlar you could put them on the roof of the 5th. 5ths look like they're 1.5-2' shorter towards the rear so if you have a light kayak you could maybe manage to get them up on the roof. I carry mine on a contractor weekender ladder rack but unfortunately that doesn't help you

Terrible. It has the power but sucks the gas. Around where I live it can get pretty windy plus there are some hills that drag you down. I'm getting about 7 mpg average. I want a gear vendor unit just don't have the cash yet. So many times I need that inbetween gear just don't have it.

I think you mean "double park" not "parallel park" That's what I think of in New York

dakotakid - Yeah, we really are enjoying our 30SK. Triple slide and would have no problems towing with a light 3/4 ton. Heck, our maiden voyage, I pulled her with the '05 F150 5.4 SuperCrew that I had at the time. Remember, this is the Gulf Coast, so the only hills are the Interstate overpasses, but had cruise set at 65-70 with no problems. Because we both still work, only put approx 4K miles on her last year. Has not been back to dealer for anything.(Knock on wood). When we were shopping last spring, we looked at every brand available in a 100 mile radius. Yes, there are fancier, better built RV's out there. IMHO, Crossroads offered the most bang for the buck.

All plywood used throughout, no OSB; all aluminum framing; face frames on cabinets are attached with pocket hole screws not staples (much stronger). Our dealer orders all of his units with the extra insulation package, 10 gal WH, 8 cu/ft refrig.; outside shower, ladder, etc. Crossroads also has one of the best warranties in the business. The '08 units have optional insulated windows. Check out our owners forum.
Good luck and let me know if you need any more info.

We are on our second Crossroads product, The first was a Zinger that we enjoyed. Had no problems with that Unit.
When we went to buy some added mechandise, and the DW got carried away on the fifth wheel units we look at a whole bunch. When it came down, the final three was the Crossroads Cruiser a Pilgrim, and Sandpiper. We went back to the Cruiser because of the reason that Cobra has stated. Also got a three slide unit that weighed a whole lot less than the others Aprox.1800lBS that is a whole lot of weight. Founf that it pulls great

We've done a fair amount of camping in the Charma area (Lake Huron I think it was called) and another lake a few miles from Huron but I can't remember the name of that one. Also a little further West in the Jiminez mountains area. It's been enough years ago that I can't remember the name of the campground though. We love the colors in that area in the autumn.

I realize just how lucky I am. My parents installed a "wanderlust" in me from an early age. I used to dream of owning a MOTEL because they were ALL located in such great places. Then I got old enough to understand that I REALLY wanted to own a motel in a different place every night so RVing was a natural progression.

Ok, as new Fiver owners, I'll join the party - here's a pic of our (new to us) Keystone Cougar.

Actually...this is someone elses Keystone Cougar (I found the pic via Google) which is identical to ours with the exception of the fact that ours has the dog shower option which is missing on this one.

I tried to take some exterior pictures of our actual unit at the dealership but the trailers were packed so close together over there (on all sides) that I couldn't get any sort of meaningful exterior pics at all, so I'm using this instead. :D

Frank - you have a couple of ways to post a picture here. One is to include a link to an image on a hosting site, such as Photobucket. When the picture is out there, you include the link to it between - you can either type those or click on the Img buton in the toolbar, when composing a post/reply. The picture should then be included in your post.

The other method is to include it as an attachment to your post. To do so, look below the text editing box, when creating a post/reply and you will see a tab which says Upload Attatchment. Click on that, browse to the picture on your PC and click on 'Add the file' Those are the basics. Please ask if you need any help!

Just joined this morning and the forum looks like a good place to while away the winter months. We have been fulltimers for ten plus years now and run a business at the same time. Work hard all winter long and try to take time off in the spring and summer months.
Lots of nice rigs here.

Pwall, I come across one of your old posts about your wiring not hooked up for your trailer brakes. I have a 2010 GM Dually with factory brake controller and it tells you when a trailer is hooked up, all the lights work and there is power at the plug for the RV batteries but I don't believe the brakes on the trailer work as well with the factory GM controller. I have the power turned all the way up and it just does not seem as good as an after market controller. My last truck was a 2005 GM 2500 with a Tekonsha P3 controller and you could tell when it was working. I don't believe there is a problem with the brakes on the trailer because I noticed the difference the first time I pulled the trailer with my new truck. Is there a way to check power at the plug on the truck or maybe at the trailer wheels.

Not sure if the newer trucks are different, but in the '07, you had to connect the 'power feed' and the 'brake feed' under teh hood by the fuse panel.
I have a thread somewhere that shows exactly what needs to be done. Let me dig it out and I'll post it.
