Crap, lost my stabilizer handle

Unread postby Mikey on Tue May 06, 2008 1:18 pm

Moved the trailer and now can't find my stabalizer jack handle anywhere. I'm really annoyed as I normally put my stuff away when I'm done.

So I call the dealer and had to describe it..."Is it D shaped" no, "Socket" well sorta..."Well does it have a nut end" no...

So the one I need is a cylinder with a notch at the top and bottom (keyed). So it goes over the end of the stabalizer jack and then it fits into two pin type things.

Any idea where to get a new one? The dealer says they will have to order it as they are currently out. Doesn't help me because my Trailer is sitting in the camp site wobbling all over the place when we move about in it. Even the two wiener dogs can make it sway.

DH said there are lots of them online, but obviously your question is finding one quickly! Amazon, Draw-Tite, Atwood, Fulton, and rvsupplywarehouse.com all list stabilizer jack handles. Good luck!

Something to try until you get a replacement...see if you can get a pair of vice grips or another wrench and try that to crank them down...or since your in a camp ground, take a look around at other trailers and see if anyone else had the same type of jack and borrow theirs to get yours set up.

Could you take a socket that fits over the shaft and grind or cut notches in it . Or maybe a lug wrech with notches ground in it?

Stop at a local Walmart or auto parts store and get 4 of those screw type jack stands and put them under the corners of your trailer. They'll work just fine but not as convenient as the attached jacks. You should be able to find a set of 4 for around $15.00. Good luck / Skip

Ok, I got one. Went to another RV place in the area. When I called he said he had a ton of different ones and I need to come identify it. Turns out that he had one, but all the trailers on his site used the one that looked like a socket would work.

What kind of stabilizer jacks do you people have? (ie what shape of handle connector).

Mine is just a speed handle with a 5/8" socket attached permanently to the end.

Mine is like a std axle jack handle. It has an offset middle section to hold as you turn. I am using a cordless driver with a socket on it that works really nice and I can do all 4 in matter of minutes.

I have the speed handle as well, but I bought an attachment for my drill. Not that is the speed Handle. I go back to the Work Smarter not harder theory. Now if I could just remember to keep the battery on the drill charged. LOl

This reminds me of a camping trip. Years ago we had a pop-up. I lost my car keys right after setting up (the wife had her set) we stayed for a few days and I didn't find my car keys. When we were closing down camp ,I cranked the pop-up roof down and there were my keys. I had set the keys on top of the pop-up before cranking the roof up.
