it's home!

Discuss traditional (ball hitch) travel trailers here.

it's home!

We hitched up our HTT this morning, for the first time this season, and drove it to the dealer, where it was unhitched, the Equal-i-zer parts taken off, and other preparations made while we went through the PDI and made the final payment on our new Flagstaff! After a couple hours, they drove our new rig out front.
Image

We drove it home, same route. It's definitely a bigger trailer - made the truck work a bit harder than it's used to. (With the Travelstar, it pretty much acted like it didn't feel anything back there.) No problems, though, and backing the 10' longer trailer into our driveway was not a lot harder than it had been with the shorter trailer. Took several tries to get positioned correctly - with the wider slideout it had to be parked farther to one side of the gravel pad.
Image

It took some doing - and another call to the dealer - to get unhitched. Seems the new hitch has a latch that works different from the old one, and they (and we) forgot to go over that in the PDI! However, we finally got it figured out, and spent another couple hours opening hatches, running fans, opening the slideout & some windows, and airing it out. Sure is a nice unit! We got a few pleasant surprises too: a detachable outdoor "table" we didn't know about, and even more storage spots (not even sure the dealer knew about this one):

We'll have fun putting our stuff in it over the next few days! :D

Congrats!!! Great looking trailer!!!

That is the most fun time when you get a new trailer home is going through the storage areas and deciding where to store your stuff!! You feel like a kid on Christmas Day afternoon playing with all your new toys!

Enjoy it!!

Also, I agree with PP, put together a firepit and build a nice fire right next to where your trailer is sitting!! Looks like a great campsite!

That's your driveway? Looks like a good campsite to me.

It's actually one corner of our back yard, right at the end of the driveway. True, it's a nice place to hang out when we're home, but we sure do like seeing different scenery too! :)

I had a ton of fun today figuring out where to put stuff! It will take us a while to get organized. So much storage space, so little CCC! So it takes thought & planning.

A campfire isn't a bad idea - but unfortunately, that spot is too close to our shed.

I'm surprised your not driveway camping tonight... I'd have been tempted.

We are waiting to pickup our new fiver for another two weeks due to a delay with some parts on order....we were originally supposed to take delivery a week from today, but that's now two weeks from today.

I can't say I'm happy about that since we are scheduled to leave the day afterwards for our first camping trip of the season, but it's not really the dealers fault...the parts are having to come direct from Keystone in the USA, and then need to be installed.

I'm hoping it's done early and we can pick it up a least a few days earlier.

catmom: What model is your Flagstaff? Hope you have good luck with it. Are they still putting the ConcertTone system in the Flagstaff?

Congrats on the new rig. Sweet looking set up you've got there. How's the Tundra for a tow vehicle? I've heard really good things about them, apart from the price.

Mountainman, it's an 831RLSS, with the rear LR.
Image
And yes, it does have the Concertone. My hubby thinks it's a newer model, so we hope for the best. :)

Mike, the Tundra has been a great tow vehicle with our HTT, which weighed about 4800 lbs loaded, probably about 4200 lbs empty. The dealer's only 3 miles from our house, so our first "tow" from his lot to home doesn't really count. GVWR of this trailer is under 7600 lbs, so we're expecting it to work out ok. The truck did notice the trailer was back there on that 3-mile tow; I'm not sure it noticed the unloaded HTT we took to the dealer for tradein. :)

Still working on figuring it all out. We mostly have stuff packed in that used to live in our HTT; no food or clothes as of yet. Heck, we haven't even de-winterized yet! Hope to get that accomplished during this week.
