New to trailer research..

Unread postby Samsam on Mon Sep 24, 2012 3:46 pm

Hi all

I don't know much about trailers (comparing brands etc) so I'm not exactly sure where to start my research..

we are looking for a small travel trailer (17' - 19'), and hoping to pull it with a Chevy Blazer..

Is that our first mistake? Should we get a better truck first?

Anyone have input on good small trailers (we'll be buying used for sure, looking at spending ~$6-9K)

I'm liking a Jayco Eagle SL 18' I found on craigslist, haven't gone to look at it yet..

Welcome to the forum!

Checking online I saw that Blazers max towing weights seem to be around 5500 lbs. If you were to tow a travel trailer then the max GVWR of the trailer should be no more than that, and preferably a lot less!

I have failed to find any info on the trailer that you mention. but if you go look at it be sure to check the label that gives the weights (usually in one of the kitchen cabinets).

Also, you will almost certainly need a good weight distribution hitch and anti sway device - I highly recommend the Reese Dual Cam system.

Welcome to the forum!
I would most definitely check how much weight the truck that you mention would be able to tow and don't forget we have to stop

Limey- I have been finding it hard to find info on older trailers too...

The jayco travel trailers seem to have a good reputation though :)

Welcome to the forum.

We are on our second Jayco, both have been solid, well built, reliable trailers.

We are happy with our Jayco's.
