Newbie here

Unread postby Quint on Mon May 05, 2008 3:04 pm

Hey all, new to the forum, new to 5ers, new to camping. My wife of 22 years grew up camping I did some limited tent camping. We just recently purchased a new 5er so we can now merge our favorite hobby hiking/backpacking with camping. We hike the Whites in New Hampshire and plan on using the 5er as a home base for our adventures. Her family are all campers with trailers and motor homes so some of our trips are just "camping only" with her family. 5er's been sitting in our driveway since January can't wait to get out on our maiden voyage. We've been buying and packing everything we can think off over the last few months and we're rearing to go. Already have 8 weekends booked with a bunch of other ideas. Thats about it for now.

Nope Zinger not a firefighter, not quite sure how you connect Quint with firefighting but would like to know.

A quint, or quintuple combination pumper, is a fire service apparatus that serves the dual purpose of an engine and a ladder truck. The name quint is derived from the Latin prefix quinque-, meaning five, and refers to the five functions that a quint provides: pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial device, and ground ladders. And now you know the rest of the story. (With help from Wikepedia and DW who is a former Firefighter/EMT)

LOL.....Actually my Great great great ( and probably a few more) grandfather was a seaman on the HMS Bounty. He, Fletcher Christian, and a handful of others were the only survivors of the mutineers. He married a local Pitcairn Island woman and had a family. I should go to Tahiti to visit family some day. :D

Hi Everyone!!

Wow, this sounds like a great group already! Well, if you haven't already guessed, we are "newbies" too! We just picked up our beautiful 5'ver, a Sundance XLT 265RK, and we are ready to take her out next week for her "shakedown" cruise!

BTW, Limey....where is Bennet, CO? We are in Pagosa Springs, just down the hill from Wolf Creek and now I am going to have to pull out the ol' road atlas to look you up

Also, CatMom....we have two wonderful kitties too, and they have already checked out the new Sundance and are ready to go :D

Looking forward to chatting with everyone.....

Hi, and welcome! Bennett is about 30 miles east of Denver on I-70. We really are not in Bennett itself, but in unincorporated Arapahoe County about 6 miles SW of Bennett - we just share the zip code!
