New from Iceland, sorta

Unread postby yr2012 on Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:29 pm

New here from Iceland, via Indiana, Illinois, Florida and Wyoming. My wife and I were chefs aboard fishing vessels owned by Capt. Abe <ozimo> who died last week. Now, I'm not what you'd call an RV'er, as we prefer trucks and tents. Having just inherited - because no one wanted it - Abe's Unimog camper, it puts us in a different situation. I was a travel agent for more than 30 years before losing my job in 2009 debacle. Capt. Abe who I knew for more than that long gave us a chance at a new life. We spent most of 09 fishing the Atlantic and 10 in the Pacific. We got to know overland travels thru So. Africa to Kenya in the most intimate way and much appreciate other views on the subject.

All for now, because we are flying out today (Easter) to Montreal to attend Abe's funeral on Monday. His step-brother Brett <plainsman, pikehunter> died the week before and they'll be next to each other once again.

Welcome! Unfortunate events that brought you here, but glad to have you!
It's sad to hear the news about Capt. Abe and plainman. :( They will be missed.
Patrick.

Currently fishing off Sardinia. Pulling out of here next month for Suez Canal. We pick up an armed escort ship to take us to the Seychelles.

I heard from a friend at Woodall's that Sir Drake Jr picked on the wrong person to delete. They say in part:
I have no sympathy for those who post tirades or some other post that does not relate to the OP's post. If yours is deleted, learn and do not repeat the mistake. Frank
Ok, I can see where this forum has a deluded person running it.
a) You have no sense of humour
b) You are deluded in your grandeur
c) You think you are more important that those that post
d) You must work for CNN

And, finally I no longer wish to participate where I'm censured for telling the truth. I can now see why so many of my friends have left Woodalls forums for greener (and more free) pastures.

Al, me son, there were some very offensive posts made, especially on international issues.

I will grant you that there are times when I think the mods to quick to close and lacking knowledge of what is or isn't politics in Canada, but of late there have been posts I thought should have been deleted an weren't.

I know, but sometimes they go overboard - that mod is no angel!

So, how're things going for you on the "other rock"?

We are planning next years' cruise to include the Baltic for a month or so, before heading back down the Kiel Canal to the Nord Sea. I prefer the Baltic to the Med - it's much prettier, esp when we go to shore for a bit of land-leg practice and tenting. Haven't had the Uni off the ship since we left Barcelona. Hoping to do some camping in Haifa and down to Cairo, before re-boarding for the remaining journey. Have new flak jackets just shipped over by Bert.

This rock, well, I can't picture us having any forest fires. Too many wet days. But stuff humans plant is growing. Still, no floods either.

Yes, the Med is lively these days, especially on the southern shore. I can't imagine the fish like that kind of lively activity. Baltic would be better. But does fishing give you much chance to use the Uni?
