WHY CANT I BE ON VACATION

Unread postby CHEROKEE GYPSY on Wed Oct 22, 2008 4:49 pm

GAS is $2.47 here in NE TEXAS. Back in Sept. I was paying $4.10 in Colorado on vacation. Why does this always happen to me. I am going to Arkansas in 3 wks, watch it jump up .50 cents a gal.

I feel your pain. I left on a 15,000 mile trip about a week before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Gas was $2.00 when I left and two weeks into the trip I was paying a buck and a quarter more. Thought I might have to give the trailer away and hitchhike home :o

We took our 6500 mile trip out west at the absolute peak of fuel prices this summer.

I was doing some mental math on how much less it would have cost us to take now versus the prices we were paying in th summer. Suffice to say we'd have some extra cash in the bank right now...a sizeable amount.

Saw it at $2.79 here in Colorado yesterday. Diesel still around $3.49 though

Here in Northern Calif, I paid $2.96 yesterday for gas. Didn't notice diesel price. Last week, gas was still $3.06.

As per USUAL, I filled up the Ford last night at $2.31 a gallon at my usual gas station. Drove by first thing this morning and found it was priced at $2.17. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining (much) because any luck at all I'll be needing gas again someday but it'll probably go back up again by then :( I've made a habit lately of running out and filling up quick before the price drops again.

Hey what I have been doing since the prices can fall 10 cents a day is only put in $20 and ride for a few days then repeat, that way it doesn't feel to bad

We just got back from a vacation, 3 weeks this time and 3500 miles instead of 4 weeks and 4600 miles. We paid the peak prices for the earlier vacation and of course much less this time (though never saw anything quite as low as Skip's local prices - I think the lowest we saw may have been $2.49.9, but we missed that station; lowest we paid was about $2.55, I think.

Oh well, both trips were good, but the one this summer was downright wonderful. :) Wouldn't trade the experience for less-expensive gas (though it would have been a little bit more enjoyable if gas prices were what they are now.)

Last 4 paragraphs nail it.

Unregulated capitalism is the pits.

We also need action taken to outlaw speculation in commodity markets.

We all knew it was the traders doing this. Well, up here we did. The 5 eastern most provinces have regulated gas prices. $0.856 per litre here now. Each time the regulated price changes we are told one of the factors is the 'traders market'.

Consider that I bought over an acre of land with a little house. & moved in this July. To go to the larger stores one way is almost 60 km or 120 km round trip. (34 or so to 70 mi.) & the other way to a much smaller shopping centre it's still over 30 km that way. So 19 to 40 mi. I'm trying very hard to get my real trips down to 1x ea. 2 weeks. HA!

This to get my average distance down to what it was when I lived in another province and was 13 km from work.

Gas hit 1.71 and diesel 2.57 today. In July when we went on or walk about I paid a low of 4.75 and a high of 5.35 for diesel. Wow at 2.00 a gal savings that is 70.00 dollars a tank fill..
