This season's done. Any plans for next year?

Unread postby Mike in Calgary on Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:11 pm

Well this season is over, for us northeners anyway. We had sorta planned on heading down to western Montana, northern Idaho and eastern Washington next summer, but the Canadian dollar is tanking again (Its about $0.82 to the US $ right now) so we might not be able to afford to head back to the States. After our trip to Utah and Colorado this year, we were looking forward to another trip south. I guess the planets are coming out of the near perfect alignment that we had this year and we'll have to stay in Canada. Not that this is a bad thing, mind you. Alberta and British Columbia are beautiful places to visit, so maybe we'll just spend 2 or 3 weeks exploring our own backyard. Anyone else planning ahead that far? Its always a long winter.

We've got one more "leaf peeping" outing planned for this year (not really planned but mentioned) then it's time to park it until the day after Christmas (technically still this year) when we head for Texas. Later in the season we'll probably head back to the Northwest to complete the trip we interrupted this summer. It's always nice to spend more than 15 minutes in the Tetons

Mike so sorry to hear about your loss.

I am not sure what we will plan...we might try the trip that we had to cancel out of this summer.
That was the Montana to Glacier then down to Yellowstone and then through Southern Idaho to take the kids to a couple places I went camping as a child.

But it is also the year of the family reunion and there is talk of doing it at Lake Tahoe.

We will be going back to Navy Base on Whidbey Island...thinking Spring Break and a couple other times as it only about 1 1/2 away.

Like to go to Mt Rainer/Mt Saint Helens also.

the day after Christmas (technically still this year) when we head for Texas

I lost my first post Skip, I'm on my lap top and I must have hit the wrong key somehow. I'm used to my desk-top and this thing has such small keys, it takes some getting used to.
Back to the main post question, Where do you guys go in Texas? We're heading for Mission TX, leaving here (MI) the day after Christmas too. It can't get here soon enough. :)

Mike,

Your post and sad news really caught me off guard! So sorry to hear about your loss. I am definately sending thoughts and prayers your way as you cope with the loss of your companion.

To respond to the original question, we had plans to go out this weekend, but the weather forecast is calling for lots of rain. We may just stay home as we can sit in the trailer in the driveway cheaper than dragging it somewhere else to do so.

We do already have our reservations for our yearly first trip for the 1st of March and opening day of trout season here in Missouri. You have to make those reservations in August the year before if you hope to get a spot at Montauk SP!

We are looking at Thousand Islands for next year's vacation trip. We've already made our reservation payment for the Fall Dover NA$CAR race camping, so that we get the same spot we were in this year. Also some other possibilities, but nothing nailed down.

Mike - so sorry to hear about your loss - you have been in my thoughts.

As for next year - we haven't planned anything yet, but are starting to think about it. The season here in Colorado doesn't really kick in until around the beginning of May, and as we generally camp in State Parks which can only be booked a max of 6 months in advance, we have a month or so to wait before we can make our first booking.

Sorry to hear the news Mike. Keep your chin up.

As for us, next year we're heading out to PEI I do believe. We did the west coast this summer, and next summer it's the east coasts turn.

We'll go across Canada on the way out east, perhaps down the eastern states a bit (I love ME and NH) and then back west through whatever states catch our fancy. With much less milage to cover versus what we did our our west-coast trip this past summer we should have a much slower paces that will allow us to "stop and smell the roses" more then we did this year.

Didn't you notice on your way through Alberta, that the roses grow here? :D We are, after all, wild rose country.

Camping season never ends here in FL. We have reservations for a weekend at a state park down the street in a couple weeks plus Ft Wilderness (Disney World) in March when our boys are on spring break. Those are the definites right now. We'll sneak in other trips as time allows. We're pretty busy with jobs and high school soccer. There are 2 to 4 games per week. My flying schedule is erratic and I only know about a week in advance when I'll be flying. Hard to plan that way.

In May we have the pilgrimage from here in New Mexico to Wisconsin for my family and back through Nebraska and Colorado for the better half's family. Maybe stopping at a park in Southern Colorado for a few days to ourselves.

Mike sorry to hear of your loss.

Next years plans, well I have to make up for this last year as we really did not go anywhere due to our trailer fire in the summer and too many business items to deal with. My son went to Ottawa for army cadets for 6 weeks as well.

Somehow, I gotta squeeze in two summers of camping into one. No plans as of yet, but I am already itching to go.

Nothing definitely planned yet, but hoping for a spring & a fall trip, both east - southeast in spring, northeast in fall. We'll see how it goes.

Put the cover on the trailer yesterday, so it's all tucked in for winter. Now to find that battery-minder...!!

We are just getting into camping again, so no definite plans yet outside of the local State Park for Mothers day. I'm hoping now to get more trips in and photograph the lighthouses of the great lakes in the next couple of years.
