Season winding down not ready to stop yet!

Unread postby shadows4 on Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:07 pm

Well the 2008 camping season is almost over. Have a club campout this weekend, the last of the year. Wife and I belong to a Coachmen RV camping club. Other friends have invited us the first weekend in November for a Thanksgiving campout but I think we will have to watch the weather before we commit to that. So what everyone else doing! Winterizing, still camping, preparing to fly south or what? John

Shadows4: You and I are lucky we have a really good place to continue camping and get to watch those great Ozark fall colors. I'll be heading down to Truman with friends in a week or so for that purpose. After that, we'll probably take a break until after Christmas when we head for Texas.

Ditto. With the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend having come and gone, the campgrounds use that as their cue to shutter.

That leaves only two campgrounds even remotely close that remain open - one about an hour west (which is basically a glorified parking lot, not really a nice park) and a Provincial Park that is one of the nicest in the province, but is three hours west each way.

Neither are options that are going to happen, so short of finding a place to boondock somewhere, our season is just about shot unfortunately, despite continued great fall weather.

We will be camping for Halloween and again on Thanksgiving. We booked our favorite campsite overlooking the Alabama River at Prairie Creek Camp Ground(some pics are in Photo share topic)for Thanksgiving weekend.
Will play the rest of the fall by ear and do the antifreeze when temps drop.

bamasurveyor: I agree, anti freeze is cheap and we never know when one of those "I just can't stand it no more" occurrences will come upon you and you just have to get away for a day or so!

Heading 2 hours north to a family wedding near Horicon Marsh Wisc. Nov. 1st for a 3 day weekend.
Then east to the west end of Penn. for Thanksgiving. Hopefully won't need to winterize till after.
In Penn we just park in the In-laws driveway but I'd like to keep the water running !

We are getting ready for next season. Shopping for a new Rv, so hitting the shows and dealerships. Getting the house ready, new alarm system ( for when we take off), adding a pad to park the motorhome, adding electric to plug in. Cutting trees to clear a spot out back for the pad. Will get some nice fire wood too. It is like getting the nursery ready to welcome home a new baby! Visiting campgrounds in person and on line to check them out. Cannot wait til spring.

We are suppose to get out camper out of the repair shop this Tuesday. New roof and awning. We are hoping we will be able to get out a couple of weekends at local lakes before winterizing. It has been a good year and we really hate putting her to bed for the winter. It is going to be a long winter.

Isn’t it fun dealing with insurance and RV repair shops  It’s good to hear that you and Diane can squeeze in a few more camp outs this year. I agree with you…..”It is going to be a long winter”.

Hey Jim, You wouldn't believe what we went through. Talk about people trying to get into my insurances pocket. And then the insurance company's just love to start slapping you with (depreciation cost). I see now why getting something fixed takes so long.
