Winterizing.

Anyone thinking about it yet? I'm looking at the temperature forecasts for this coming week and I'm seeing overnight temps down to 3 and 4 degrees in the latter half of the week. No worries quite yet, but at this pace another few weeks and it'll be time for me.

When does everyone else (those who actually have winter weather to deal with) do the same?

This weekend is it for us then it is time to weatherize (I think that sounds better) the camper.

The forecast is looking good for this coming weekend, so we might get another weekend in.

Unfortunately almost all of the campgrounds around here close on the Canadian thanksgiving weekend (oct 10'th/13'th) which pretty much screws any chance of late season camping. I'd probably camp into November (winterized or not, we can use the CG facilities) but with the CG's closed it pretty much screws that up unfortunately.

Mine goes in Monday for the big "W". I also have a gas leak test and caulking inspected (still the original).

The boat goes in the same day for service and "W".

But all this does not mean I'm done camping. Now is the time for serious quad riding and I can still use my camper dry. I'll just bring water in jugs. Heat it on the stove. Still use the sink drains and toilet. When I get home just drain the sewer tank and "pink the sinks". :D

We have 1 trip in late October. Usually after our last trip, I winterize and take it in for (Pa state) inspection. Only problem with that is , we don't get it back till December and usually already have some snow on it so I don't get it covered. So this year, we will winterize at the end of October and then cover her up. We'll go uninspected as it hibernates all winter, and get it inspected in the spring.

My camping season is just starting so I’m in somewhat in a different mode. Yesterday I removed my Group 27 battery from TT and put on charger to equalize cells. This morning started the desulfate process. I’ll do same to my Trojans. Next is to sanitize all tanks, top off propane. Re-pack bearings is on the list but not sure if it will get done before first trip. I’ll be boondocking in the Arkansas Ouachita National Forest. Hopefully I’ll get a couple of trips per month in through April.

If it wouldn't cost me a small fortune to do that we'd probably drag our fiver down your way to visit family at Christmas, but it's just not practical for a 4-5 day holiday unfortunately.

We spent just under $3000 on fuel for our big west coaster this past summer, so another $1500 to take the trailer south and home for what amounts to less then a week just isn't in the cards, my friend. :D

Diesel Just hit 3.65 here today. I paid 4.75 in July on our walk about. Let see if I do the math the Government way that means every fourth tank is free

We have one last trip planned for the last weekend in October. After that, I will winterize, not because I absolutely have to, but because I store the TT at my parent's farm for the winter and it is easier to winterize at my house right after we unpack from that last trip. First hard freeze usually doesn't happen here until about mid November.

Although I am seriously considering taking a trip during the Christmas break this year. If we do, we will just leave the plumbing winterized and use bottled water and jugs for necessities.

I don't usually winterize until March (after we return from Texas each year). We start having freezing weather usually in October but I just turn on the tank heaters and let the trailer take care of itself until after Christmas when we leave. I have to tell you I DO love those heaters ;)

We didn't think we were done. While we were at Fall River our awning stopped working so we took it in to be fixed or repaired and the people told me that my rubber roof was tore and needed to be replaced. Can you imagine the price of a new rubber roof? Anyway my insurance company thinks the bid was too high and now it is waiting game. Looks like we are done until next year afterall.

Call me crazy….we plan on doing some winter camping…. and in Kansas that’s crazy! So the MH will be in a “stand by”mode this winter.

If it is a small tear, you could just patch it with Eternabond tape. They say that stuff is really good.
