Frustrated with Dometic fridge

Unread postby crazyaboutcampin on Thu Jul 24, 2008 9:36 pm

Ever since it was brand new it wouldn't cool very good. Took it to the dealer many times and could never find anything wrong. That dealer went broke and closed up. Took it to a different dealer. Just picked it up for the 2nd time at the tune of over 500 bucks and it still won't cool below 55 on a hot day. 95+

The first dealer dinked around with it and now it's out of warranty.

The 2nd dealer replaced the gas valve and just put in a Dometic fan kit.

I would love to use this thing for target practice. Are they all this bad or is there a better brand I should replace it with?

In the unit we have the Norcool seems to better than Dometic. However having said this I found out that on one of the fins in th Dometic there is a sensor that slide up ad down by adjusting this downward we were able to get this unit cooler faster and temp stayed down

Interesting about the sensor! We'll have to look for it on ours - though ours cools just fine (temps right around 40 even when the fridge was in the sunshine on 95-degree days in SLC last month). Sorry to hear of the troubles with yours. Frustrating wouldn't begin to describe it, if that were our situation!

Yup - I had the same issue until I discovered the little plastic thing that slides up and down the fin on the right hand side.

My fridge is now included on the recall list. Think I'll wait until then last trip is done beforeI take it in. It's been fine for two years so a few more months will be OK!

I just had the recall performed on ours yesterday. It only took about a half an hour. Just thought I would let you know so you weren't worried about a lengthy delay. Just be sure to call an make an appointment and you should be in and out very quickly!
