I wasn't really looking for new batteries, but...

Whoo Hoo!! Scored big time on new trailer batteries! I don't normally like to gloat, but this was almost too good to be true. You see, I sell and service large industrial batteries and chargers for a living and a lot of my clients have equipment such as electric floor scrubbers and scissor lifts. So the other day when I was at my supplier of "little" batteries such as these I happened to mention that I was going to get a set of golf cart batteries for my trailer. He took me to the back and showed me 4 - US145's just sitting there by themselves and told me that they had been returned by a customer after 5 weeks and that they had bought another set. Golf cart batteries come in 3 sizes, G2200, G2300 & US145, so these were the heaviest one available. Since they had had them kicking around the shop for about 4 months, they were getting sick of constantly having to recharge them so he told me that I could have them for $200 cash for all 4. Yes $50 each. A client had told me that he wanted new batteries for his 5er so I said he could have 2 of these for $100 each, cash. He was happy, my supplier was happy and I was beside myself. He even threw in a set of battery boxes on the deal.

I wonder if your 5er friend visits the site. If so, he's going to know that you doubled your profit at his expense

Possibly, but he still got over $600 worth of batteries for only $200. Methinks he'll get over it.

I HOPE it's just a figure of speech but why would he need to charge batteries constantly during 4 months? Sounds like you made a heck of a deal PROVIDED they hold a charge better than that.

Deal.

We negotiated in a brand new deep cycle with out new fiver, but it's a far cry from anything spectacular or high capacity - I'm on the hunt for another bigger one to run in tandem with it, but it'll have to wait a few weeks until the bank account recovers.

One of my customers at work is also a sweeper/cleaner company who stocks the massive 6V batteries as well. I tried a few weeks ago to negotiate a deal, but only ended up with an offer for a small discount. A small discount on a $300 battery doesn't have the WAF required to allow such. (Wife Approval Factor). :)
