Well lets see. You are from Arkansas. Dog on beach. Brown sand. No condos in background.

I've heard of a King Neptune skulpture on a beach in Virginia but don't remember just where it was located. I remember seeing a photo of the skulpture while it was a work in process and it looked very similar to that one.

Here's a couple of additional pics. Phone man is correct in the region of where I am. Do you know what city is having the sand sculpture contest this weekend. By the way, it's always great to have a beach where dogs are allowed.

Well in that case, South Padre Island village has an annual Sand Sculpture contest but I don't know exactly when it is.

Mustang Island - Aransas Pass ?? The dog on the beach and no condos gave it away. My DD lives in Ingleside and we like to take the dogs to run on the beach.

I know that nobody will believe me, but I had that guess earlier. I would have posted it, but I was assuming (I know, don't assume) that the picture was current and the Mustang Island contest hadn't happened yet. I was looking for a contest that was in late March or early April on the Gulf Coast.

Phone Man and Chris,

This is the Texas Sandfest at Port Aranasas, Tx. The Sandfest is going on this weekend April 18-20. The pictures are of the center piece sculpture that displays all the sponsers for the activities. It is completed a few days before the actual competition which starts today. This is our first year to come down here for the Sandfest. April is a good time to be at Port Aransas if you don't like crowds...excluding this weekend...the winter Texans have headed home and the summer session has not started.

The neat part of this island is it is pretty laid back. They still allow dogs on the beach, must be on a leash. However, at sunrise when you and your dog are the only ones on the beach, who cares? They still allow camping on the beach and you will see everything from Class A's to tents. We are staying at Pioneer RV Resort which is a Boardwalk away from the beach.

The beach is not the prettiest this time of year as it gets sea weed from the Bahamas, or somewhere in that area. I understand that the gray sand is what makes for great sand castles. It has a mix of sand, silt, and salt...just add water.

Will post some more pictures after the fest. It is amazing what these guys can do. A lot different than my filling a bucket with sand and turning it upside down lol

I always get Port Aransas and Aransas Pass swapped. But I do know where I want to go, just don't know where I am after I get there. ;)

Just a short Ferry ride seperates the two. :D

I know what you mean about getting them confused. Doesn't seem right that the Mustang Island location is PORT Aransas and the mainland location is the Pass....Always seemed to me you should go THROUGH the pass to get to the port but what would a Kansas Kid know about oceans and stuff :D

I posted several pictures of the Texas Sandfest in a thread on the Photo Sharing Forum. Enjoy what these artists can do with sand.
