Clueless with charcoal

Unread postby pwall on Tue Aug 07, 2012 5:54 pm

Ok, as most of you know, I was at one of Ontario's provincial campgrounds this weekend with a complete fire ban.
No open fires were allowed period. You could use a stove, and still cook with charcoal, but that was it. It's been so dry here in Ottawa.
Well on Sunday morning the couple that was camping across from me, got up early, cooked breakfast, packed and left.
Less than 20mins later another camper and myself notice smoke coming from inside the bush at that campsite.
Silly campers dumped their hot charcoal ashes inside a dead hollowed-out tree! Could they have have put them in the fire-pit...NO. Let's dump them in woods during a fire-ban.
The neighbor and myself must have dumped 20-25 gallons of water on the charcoals. I kept an eye on it for quite some time.

And you wonder how fires start all by themselves in the forest sometimes.......
