So, where's everyone going for the first trip of the season?

Unread postby PrivatePilot on Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:06 pm

For the unlucky amongst us who don't live in the areas that have the luxury of camping all year round, where is everyone planning on going for your first trip this spring?

We are looking at heading out with a bunch of my wives coworkers to a provincial park about an hour east of us (Presqu'ile Provincial Park) for the mothers day weekend..probably depart Friday night and stay until Sunday afternoon.

Everyone else?

Our first trip, we had to cancel due to my father's passing. 2nd trip canceled due to relocating our Company spring picnic (it's gonna be about 100 yds. from our home). As luck would have it though, I've got a 2 day work related school in The Woodlands, TX on Thur & Fri. in May; then the following Monday, another 4 day school down in Kemah, TX. So as the saying goes...where there's a will, there's a way. At least we'll be using the 5er and I'd rather sleep in our bed than some motel. :D

Well actually our FIRST trip of the year started on December 26th and ended on March 1st. and we had PLANNED on cutting back somewhat this year and spending a little time getting some things done around the house I'd been putting off for the last three or four years. As luck would have it, my kids are jumping in and saving me from a life or drudgery. My oldest daughter and her family are wanting us to go on a two week trip to the St Louis area. No particular plans for the details yet but just a concept. Once we agreed to accompany them my youngest daughters (twins) and THEIR families are wanting to spend a week at Lake Murray Oklahoma so we agreed to that one also.

Neither of those trips have a firm date yet so I'm sure we'll do something local in the mean time. Probably either to Truman Lake or one of the other local lakes. What the heck, I can work on the house ANYTIME

Off to Pueblo for the last weekend of this month. Haven't dewinterized yet - just as well as we are under a winter storm warning right now with 8" due on the ground in the next 12 hours.

My first trip of the year has been the same now for the past 5 years. The last couple days of February and first couple days in March I head down to Montauk State Park for the annual March 1st opening of the Missouri trout fishing season. This year we had gorgeous weather with sunshine and temps in the 70s. Then the day after we got home we had over 6 inches of snow! Luckily that was the last snow of the season for us and since then the problem has been too much rain. But with the drought the last couple years, the drenching rains have been helpful as well. We just need some dry time now so we can get the garden started!

First trip will be May 9-11 to a local state park. They offer free camping for the weekend in exchange for 4 hours work on getting the campground and trails ready for the season.

The way the weather is, probably not till July.

Seriously though, hopefully we will get out to a local CG next weekend. We are pretty busy up until Memorial Day but should get 2 trips in till then, Both to local areas. Problem that we will have, 2 local CG's closed this year so reservations will be tough to make at late notice. Supposed to rain this weekend so hopefully we can stay inside and plan out our summer.

WOOHOO....my first trip is coming up next weekend. We are going down to the Winnemucca sand dunes. I've never been there before and have never ridden my quad on sand dunes so this will be a couple new experiences. I am pressed for time in getting the camper de winterized and ready to go though. Not much time and it all has to be done between naps. Retirement can be very demanding at times. Sounds like I should move to Texas so I don't have to go through this winterizing stuff. ;)

Our frist trip this year was Myrtle Beach frist of Feb to frist of April. Our next trip will be about May 15 to New Hampshire, just outside Meridith in clearwater campsite. Great campsite you can even swim in the pond this early if the air is warm enough the pond will be. :D

Well, since we bought our 1st rv at end of Dec, we have gone one weekend a month since. Started with Plymouth, CA, gold country, then Bodega Bay,CA for some ocean, and last to Collins Lake in foothills near Marysville and Grass Valley. Trying to lock something in for end of April but no firm plans yet. Our 1st state park with trailer is Lake Tahoe Sugar Pine Pt on Memorial Day weeken. No week long trip in planning yet but time to get busy.

Next week I am going to Hammond, La (20mi) to have new axles put on TT. Then order new tires and after they are replaced we are heading to Key West to find a beach bar with lots of Margaritas.

Our first trip of the season was New Years Weekend.

Then a trip to Portland OR in February.

Last weekend we were camped out on the Columbia River.

This weekend we are headed back to Portland to meet up with some friends that are returning from their first Winter in the South.
