The other night, I was browsing with 4 guests. Just the guests and me. I was thinking the same thing as you, "Don't be afraid to join!" And who knows, maybe they did! :D

The Sun rises in the East.
You could make that statement on that other RV site and sit back and watch it turn into a debate in a couple of hours, it really gets old fast. Thank you for starting this new site.

Would I be correct in assuming that if I am browsing the forum without logging in that I would show up as a "guest"? If so, many of the guests showing may be just lazy members like me. I only log in when I want to post a reply.

If you guests are indeed non-members, come on in. This place has some great members ( even us lazy ones)!!

I hear if you use a Hensley, it rises in the North.

Thanks everyone, glad your enjoying the place so far - and thanks to Skipnchar who has (despite being thrown into the job quite abruptly!) become a trustred right-hand-man in our early stages of growth.

We've got a long way to go yet but I'm satisfied that in a little over three weeks we've gone from zero members and zero posts to 92 members and approaching 2000 posts. Still a very sparse forum by the standards of several other places, but with encouraging growth that will change eventually.

This has been a refreshing forum. When I feel the need to start an argument I know where to go.

Oh, don't worry - as the forum grows and threads lengthen it'll happen here - I've got a great deal of forum administrator experience and it happens at every forum, eventually.

It's not always a big deal - sometimes discussions get spirited, and frankly, sometimes the spirited ones are amongst the most interesting. However, there comes a line where "spirited discussion" turns to "cheap shots", and that's where the admins/mods step in to either tone things down, or lock a thread.

That said, it must also be remembered that what might be considered am irritating or problematic post by one member might be considered "acceptable" by most others, or vice versa.

The secret to tackling it is:

1/ Clear and effective rules that are fair, yet firm, and apply to everyone equally. (Including moderators themselves)
2/ Attentive moderators
3/ Administrators and moderators that are tactful in handling the situation (Take it behind the scenes, don't smackdown members in public)

And to go with #2 and #3:

4/ Very careful selection of moderators to ensure that those given the powers can utilize them fairly, effectively, and in such a fashion that the membership feels they are being dealt with properly.

As time goes on we will be adding moderators as required but at this point there isn't a need due to this still being our early growth stages.

Welcome to the forum. The way I see it ANYBODY can spell words the "traditional" way. It takes a little creativity to make up your own way :D By the way, just a little tip for working in a forum without spell check....copy your post into an email message, spell check it and replace it on the forum and you HAVE spell check (if you're concerned about it, but I'm certainly not). Look forward to your posts / Skip

Hi Mike, Welcome!

If you are interested, try Firefox as your web browser of choice - it has a built in spell-check feature. ;)

The lack of contention on this forum is because skip has a very scary title; Global Moderator. He will get you no matter how hard you run. LOL
