Biodegradable toilet paper?

Unread postby ddire on Mon Feb 13, 2012 11:59 am

Is the RV toilet paper necessary to keep the clogs to a minimum or is this just a marketing ploy?

Personaly I think it is simply a marketing ploy.

Many RVers, over the years have done tests to see how fast many types of toilet tissue break down, and it is revealing!

I use Angel Soft 2ply - same as we use at home. It is pretty good and costs a LOT less than the overpriced specialty RV tissues. :)

I've never ever looked at rv toilet paper.

BUT for my home I have a septic tank and the recommendation for that is 1 ply toilet paper. Given that I live in a rural area I have no problem finding 1 ply toilet paper in the stores. RVs are have smaller proportions than septic tanks. So, I use 1 ply TP for my rig too.

Yeah, no point in making a nasty job any worse than it is. 2 ply for us too.

The people that use the "special" single ply RV stuff just end up using twice as much, so IMHO you're no further ahead.

We've used all sorts of different TP's with our trailer and never had any issues, although our trailer rarely sits still for long so the blank tank contents are always well stirred.

We're currently using Costco Kirkland brand TP and have never had any issues.

I'd never contemplate spending the insane $$$$ on the 'special' RV toilet paper.

I'm with Limey as well on this one. Never really understood what makes RV toilet paper any different from the regular ones that we use in the house. We've also been using Angel 2-ply and no problems whatsoever. It's just probably some excuse they came up with to try and fork out more money from RVers.

1 ply breaks down faster than 2 ply. As simple as that.

Methinks Limey has need of discerning and calculating and developing tactile skills.

If we're parked for an extended stay, and on a sewage hookup, we certainly use the RV paper. Being parked, there is no agitation of the black water tank. The flimsy RV paper is therefore of an advantage.

If one is traveling, and the tanks are agitated, any paper will do.
