I need some help.

Unread postby Big Dave on Tue Mar 25, 2008 8:05 pm

I need a picture of a skylight from the inside of your trailer. I've got a fifth wheel and I need to put a skylight in the shower so I can stand up. I'm 6'9" and have to stand with my neck all in a twist to take a shower. I want to put in a skylight but can't seem to find anything on the net. I've found the outside but no trim kit for the inside. I think I've found a trim kit for the inside but would like to see one before I order anything.

Thanks to whomever can help me.

If you can wait till tomorrow I'll take a few for you. Mine has 2 skylights, 1 on the inside over the shower and the other is on the outside over the shower. The outside one is just screwed right into the roof then sealer is gooped all around it

Look in the upper left corner behind the TV antenna you see the dome that's just bolted to the roof and gooped up

Thanks. I may be MIA for a while because the next campground doesn't have Wi Fi. I've seen pics of the skylights on the outside just screwed to the roof and then caulked but there has got to be some kind of trim piece so you don't see the area between the inside ceiling and the outside roof.

Yes there is, it's another dome on the inside just like the one on the outside. Hand tight I can go out and get a pic of the inside one no problem but the outside one has to wait till daylight.

I wondered about that because I've seen the opaque ones that looked like they bolt to the inside. How much room do you think is inbetween the two. I'd like to get all the headroom I can. Hell, as tall as I am I could probably stand up and look around the outside of the trailer.

Cool, thanks. That would probably be enough headroom or at least more than I have now. Just have to find the parts and pieces and take a sawzall to the roof of the trailer. :o That'll be nerve racking.

My guess is it has a 2" space between the 2 domes, I think it adds about 6" of head room. I'm 6' tall and I stand in mine with a little room to spare... maybe 2 or 3 inches to spare.

I just measured and I have 6'1" of floor to ceiling clearance inside the tub. I'll need an additional 8" to be able to stand up. I'm probably not gonna get it but anything more will be a big improvement.

Do you wanna see what the roof will look like when it's cut open?

I have the exact same problem in my Rockwood (if I take a step ladder in the shower with me and stand on the 3rd step) :D I DO have a friend who is 6'6'' and he won't even come IN my trailer without a crash helmet on.

That's one of the reasons I bought a fifth wheel, more headroom.

Thanks. You've been alot of help. I think I've got enough information now that when I call to order something I won't sound like a dweeb.

No problem, it's my pleasure. Just make sure there won't be a metal stud in your way before you cut the roof... that would suck real bad

I think I'll be fine cutting the hole. Straight across from where I want to put the skylight is the roof vent/fan. I can also push up on the ceiling and feel that there is no supporting truss above it.

The wood is so thin that you can cut it with a good sharp razor blade knife with a few careful passes. Then cut the foam with a 4" razor blade from Home Depot.
