The strange looks I get.......From my pets

Unread postby LA_Bolt_Fan on Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:57 pm

I see alot of nice dogs while camping, last week I even saw a guy with 3 cats on leashes. I have 2 beautiful Iguanas I bring (Although unusual) and people are really interested. I guess I have a new way of making new friends, everyone stops by to say hi to them. They make NO noise, don't poo on the grounds and don't chase anyone. Would love to see others pet/camping pics too, especially unusual pets!!

What a great conversation starter. I don't have pictures but my oldest Granddaughter used to have a 4 foot Iguana that she had trained to use the family toilet. It kind of puts you in your place if you have to wait for it to finish using the facilities while visiting though. It would leash walk but not very well or very far. Didn't seem to be much of a cuddler to me though. :D

That's neat. On Christmas vac. at the beach, the camper beside us had a parrot. It stayed outside on her perch most of the day. Could sing and talk. Drew a lot of attention.

We have a brand new member that has not yet posted on our site but I've camped with him on a number of occasions. They have a very active and articulate parrot who camps with them. In polite company I can't tell you EVERYTHING he says though :D Come on Leadm55, lets see some photos if you've got em. :D

That's funny about having to wait!! Did you tap a toe at it with your arms crossed?? :D Mine use a kitty litter box when indoors and an old pottery thingy, the pan that goes under a big plant pot (No idea what you call it) with a little water in it when outdoors. Also mine don't cuddle with me either, but my wife............They love cuddlin her, especially at feedin time!

If I saw that on a hanging piece of wood I'd have to stop and question it too

Here's our camping buddy. He gets lots of attention at the campsite as well. :-)

Very cool PrivatePilot!
My Sis in law had a bird similar to yours (Cindy) that we would take tent camping on the beach when we lived in Hawaii. Most animals, not unlike myself, love being outside in the elements.
Does your pet need heat in the cold times?? I wish I could find a good 12v heat source, but I am sure that would kill my batteries before the wife could  .

Wild Cockatoos have very broad temperature tolerances - captive ones, not so much.

The trip that we were on when those pictures were taken was actually our last trip of the season, sometime in September I think. It was about as cool as I'd feel comfortable having him out in, and as you can see he was quite enjoying his huddle in my wifes hoodie at one point. :)

When back at the site and in his travel cage I actually had a small ceramic heater that kept things warm - I just tossed a blanket over the cage with only the front open (and the heater in the back) and it worked well to keep him comfy.

No wonder the "Couples" there were having nothing to do with us! , but we're nice to everyone :D

We camp with some friends (she too is English) who take their parrot with them. His name is Basil - they are Fawlty Towers fans! They take him for walks by using a sort of fabric cage which is carried in front of the DW like a baby carrier/rucksack - it's pretty neat!

Hello fellow campers, I am Les and new to the forum. I just ran across Skips post on our pet. We have a blue and gold macaw and his name is Bojo. Like skip mentioned he does talk but can't mention some of his words. I will try to post a picture which is the only one I can find for now. He really loves to go camping with us and most of the time he is a real joy to be around.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm actually surprised to see this many people camping with parrots - usually we always get the story (from other campers) when we're camping that it's the "first time" they've ever seen a parrot at a campsite.
