cover's off!

Unread postby catmom on Fri Mar 19, 2010 10:45 pm

We have had beautiful weather this week (for mid-March). We all know it's just a teaser, and tomorrow will prove it, as we head back to a rain/snow mix and temps in the 30s. However, we still took the cover off the trailer today, since the snow is gone, and it's had a week or two to dry. One more step toward spring and the start of camping season! :)

Yup - same thing here in Colorado. 68 degrees on Thursday, 18 degrees and a foot of snow yesterday. So much for 1st day of spring! :o

Yep, we learned a long time ago that the vernal equinox is not the same as spring! At least it doesn't last long from here on out.

All the snow here in Ottawa is gone.....and the weather has been really good.
But it's still to early not to expect at least 1 more snow fall.
May long weekend is taking too long.......

So, who here can tell me what either of these terms means:

Paddy's Brush

Sheila's Broom.

:?:
I know, of course.

Well not sure - I know that you can buy a green shaving brush called Paddy's brush, but am not sure if that's what you mean!

The only Sheila's brush I know about is the one that the old lady used to pat passers-by on the butt with!

Well, I know I'd heard of the term well before I got to Nova Scotia.

But by most recent folklore

Sheila's Brush is the annual winter storm that occurs around St. Patricks day.
The resulting snow is attributed to Sheila's sweeping away of the last of winter

http://rjproduct.ca/2006/03/newfoundland-weather-lore.php

Google summary for same site on same Paddy's brush

When poor drunken Paddy returned home, Sheila took at him with the broom (brush) and stirred up quite a storm... in response to Angela, the legend "big snow'

I understood that Sheila's Broom was from Cape Breton & Paddy's Brush, Newfoundland. It probably depends upon who your neighbors are.

I've counted it as any storm from March 17 through March 31.

April snow is poor man's manure to Nova Scotians.

We took our's off a few weeks ago and I spent some time polishing it. Now it's in for state inspection. Sure felt good driving it to the shop on Sunday, although I see the winter didn't change stupid driving habits in a few people.
