Yes, all enjoy.

May you have a nice sunny day, have good driving, good fellowship and wear loose clothing.

You had me worried for a minute there Patrick. Happy Thanksgiving so early? I thought all that web site work had gotten to you. Then I googled Thanksgiving in Canada and discovered that you are right. I didn't realize that it was celebrated the 2nd Monday in October. Gee, I learned something today.
So yes indeed, Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends in Canada. :)

Thanksgiving in Canada wondered around a lot. It varied among provinces for a time too. Finally, it was settled by Parliament to be the 2nd Monday in Oct. to be noticeably different from US Thanksgiving.

Yep, national holiday, October 12 has been Columbus Day for many a year. He's considered to have discovered America back in 1492, voyages of the Vikings not being known until recent times.

I'll betcha there are some here PW who don't know about the Viking settlement site @ L'anse aux Meadows: http://www.virtual-tours-newfoundland.ca/LanseauxMeadows/Meadows.html, including some Canadians.

Yes, I'm sure many haven't any idea of even where that is.
Finally visited L'anse aux Meadows back in 2008. Took friends of ours back home for a 3week visit. They really enjoyed Newfoundland.
I'm looking forward to going back next summer. :)

Technically. - Civil Servants, Banks and such like get the day off - we real workers still get to come in!

Basically it was when the harvest was finished. Why we have ours so late I dunno.

Well, I can't pin that down but I did find this:

Thanksgiving Day, or Thanksgiving, presently celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, has been an annual tradition in the United States since 1863. It did not become a federal holiday until 1941. Thanksgiving was historically a Religious observation to give thanks to God, and still is by most families, but it is now considered a secular holiday as well.

Most Americans celebrate by gathering at home with family or friends for a holiday feast. Though the holiday's origins can be traced to harvest festivals which have been celebrated in many cultures since ancient times, the American holiday is tied to the deliverance of the English settlers by Native Americans after the harsh winter at Plymouth, Massachusetts and that event has become the pre-eminent foundation story for English North America.

in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_%28United_States%29 & they usually can state things concisely
