Replaced the F150 with 250

Unread postby The Rock on Thu Dec 16, 2010 12:37 pm

Well after much debate have retired the 150 for a 250 diesel :D think it will do a much better job. It is winter even though it is 7 °C and raining, remindes me of the May 24 week end. Can't wait until the spring only 153 more day to go but who is counting.

Congrats! You'll love the diesel!

In 2006 I camped in Churchill Falls next to some folks who had at least a Northern Lite TC up on their F150. I asked how they could put that heavy a camper on an F150.

So, they said, "we have a camper package, you have to ask for it." Must have included shocks, springs, stronger axle or axle reinforcement. & the 7 point electrical connection, mirrors, bigger alternator......

It made sense, those upgrades, but I'm just following a bit o' logic of stuff they'd need to haul a TC of the size they had. & like they said: "you have to ask."

& it was 4 years ago, in boom times for the economy and for rvs.

You are going to LOVE that truck. You will also be looking back a few times to see if you are still pulling a trailer.

Congrats

I filled up my truck last night while I was in Rockland (east of Ottawa) as it's a little cheaper sometimes. $1.099....why don't they just say $1.10.
$200 and 182 litres later........

If you read my post in the Welcome part of this Forum, you would see that we are buying the same trailer you have. Thanks for confirming my decision to go with the 3/4 ton tow vehicle even though the dealer claimed at first I could haul it with the 1/2 ton. When I asked him what he would use if he were buying the trailer, he admitted he would use the larger truck. A friend has a car dealership & has the truck that meets my requirements for his own tow vehicle (same one you bought!). I have asked him to find me a tow vehicle - it will probably be the Ford F250!

Looking forward to becoming a 5th wheeler hauler!

The 250 will handle a heavy camper much better than a 150 EVEN with a "so called" camper package. Diesel price here has skyrocketed 20 cents in the last ten days! I paid $3.259 yesterday for 80 gals. Lemme see......that's about 0.90/ltr.

$0.90 / L that would be great. As for milage I get better fuel milage with the 250 then I got with the 150 :D so all is good. I started out with the ½ towing my trailer. It did ok, sales person told me the same thing it could be pulled with a ½ ton, but you are at the top of it’s limits. :o Having the wife and the boys in the truck, having that thought in the back of your head, is it safe is not worth it. Camping is suppose to be fun not to worry. Now all I have to do is have someone put the hitch in my truck before May.

My Uni is getting 18pmg and it weighs 7 tons! The best I could do with a Dodge 2500 was 14. It all has to do with the gearing and tires. I've got 8 fwd, 3 rev on 34" tires.
