My new Dodge 3500

Unread postby leadm55 on Thu Jun 18, 2009 12:31 am

Just purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram 3500. It has the 6.7 diesel,1ton single axle with 4 wheel drive and a 6 speed manual transmission, 4 door quad cab with exhaust brake. It is the inferno red color. So far I love it. Haven't had the chance to tow with it but I expect a big difference from my other Dodge. I will try to post a picture when I get one taken.

Congratulation on the new truck, I hope you get many years of tow miles out of it.

Thanks so much. Finally got to tow with it and I was totally impressed. Not sure if it was the bigger diesel or the extra gear but I noticed a large difference. Getting ready to go again tomorrow. So far I am getting 17.3 miles a gallon but that is not towing. I am hoping that it will do better once it is broke in. I sure am enjoying how quiet the motor runs.

17.3 is pretty good - just don't expect much more than 18 unladen. Towing up to 16,000 lbs you should be in the 12mpg range.

My old School 5.9L diesel can tip the 20-22 MPG mark unloaded but loaded I'm about 11-13 MPG but out here in Idaho everything is up and down there is very little flat roads.

As for the 6.7L make sure you use good quality fuel filter (fleetguard) because the injectors sure don't like the dirt/debris much and are rather costly to replace.
