Dogs

2 quick stories.

First time we took our Bloodhound mix camping with us. We had the dog chain tied to the picnic table when we were outside the camper. 1 nite, when I was making supper on the grill, the picnic table went flying past me. Bloodhound saw something and the nose wanted to investigate it further. From that point on, the chain goes around the rear wheels.

Last September, the campground we were at had a pet weekend. Pet contests and pet parade. All the dogs won something. The bloodhound won for biggest smile. The Bull Mastiff won for biggest dog, but everyone thought it should have won for biggest pile. During the parade, the bull mastiff decided to take a dump in the middle of the road, scattering the people walking behind us. This thing dumps like a horse. One comment made from the owner of a Yorky, "my dog doesn't leave that much out in a year." No problem for us, we always carry a few plastic grocery bags when walking the dogs.

We have a 1.5 year old Shitzoo-poodle mix, first dog in our family.
Needless to say, it's been a learning exercise. White dog, long hair, park.......
He now get's a good shave before camping season starts. ;)

I have Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Chessie coat colours vary. My two start life as chocolate brown, but get more of a reddish brown tone as the fur gets it's sun/vitamin-D treatment.

The avatar picture of Kopit, soon to be 9, was taken in 2006. Her coat is much more red now.

Chessies are great campers. Good trail guys. & if you've had to drive all day, find a nice spot o' swimming water before you park the rig for the night. Using a stick for item to retrieve, I get them to swim for 15 minutes. & that makes them veg. out all nice and quiet for the night. They are attached to the truck with chains 10' long and stay outside on security duty overnight.

Do I need to say that I prefer to cook outside where we can be a family.

Shitzoo, maltese mix here and is also mostly white. We go with the puppy cut and she always looks great even with the dirt from the campgrounds.

Problem is she thinks she is the organizer of the entire campground when tied out. We keep her inside or walking with us and that way she is always happy and so are we.

We have 2 dogs that camp with us, the first and eldest is an 8 yr old Chow that just loves camping and is very content to quietly watch everyone go by (well usually anyways) our second is a Shiloh Shepherd which is just about to turn 1, she is usually full of p_ _ _ & vinegar and although we did have her camping several times last year as a puppy we haven't made it out yet now that she is almost fully grown. We love having the dogs with us camping, it just wouldn't be the same without them.

We're actually looking for a dog now. My wife and son are allergic so we've checked out all the hypoallergenic breeds and we've decided on a Havanese. Our friend has one and it's a great dog. So now the trick is to find one. We want to get one between the ages of 1 & 4 years old. We're mainly looking in rescues and pounds. The puppies are cute but EXPENSIVE!!! Besides a I'd rather save a dog than buy one from a breeder.

I see, per google, that Havanese dogs come in several colours, like chessies.

How big or little do they really grow? I have to admit I like a dog tall enough that I can touch his/her head as I pass by.

They're small but that doesn't bother us. Actually it's better for our sitution. The dog won't take over the trailer (size wise). And they are cute.

Now that dog is just plain cute! :)

We have a 1.5year old shitzu-poodle mix. Our first dog, and I have to admit, they quickly become part of your family.
