Mystery campground

Unread postby mountainman on Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:42 pm

I though it might be interesting to add a bit of mystery to the forum by posting a picture of a campground where a member has spent time and see if others can identify the location and campground name.
Being I just returned from a 3 week trip to a warmer climate (hint), I will post a picture of a campground I stayed at. If the location and campground name is not identified within a week I will include another hint.
If there is any interest in this process please feel free to enhance the idea as I have no right to ownership.

No idea where that is (perhaps Arizona?).
However, like the idea of the 'mystery campground'.

I like the idea too! I have no guess, other than agreeing it could be Arizona, possibly California - along the Colorado River?

Great idea. I guess I'd take a kind of guess that it's "horsetooth Reservoir". Since you said it's in "warmer climate" probably not correct. I remember a campground in New Mexico, Lake Navajo, that looked kind of like that too but probably wouldn't be MUCH warmer there than back home.

Thanks for your guesses and stay tuned. We arrived home here in Loveland on Tuesday and have been cleaning up our equipment and getting ready for spring. We stayed at the Goosenecks of the San Juan and then in Fruita,Co on the way home. It rained all day enroute from the San Juan to Fruita and Vail pass and the approach to Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 was closed all afternoon and throughout the night while we were in Fruita. The weather required that we lay over a few hours in the morning of our departure from Fruita on the last leg of our trip. Some directional hints here!. I will provide an additional hint on Monday March 2.
Our weather in Loveland is going to be spring like this coming week. Golf will be the order of the day on Monday and Wednesday. Summer can't be far away!

Hey I got busy playing golf this week and forgot my promise to provide a hint to my mystery campground. The location is an Arizona State Park in the western part of the state.

dalenoel, you are the man. Yes you are correct the mystery campground is in fact Buckskin Mountain State Park, a truly great park in a wonderful setting along the Colorado river. The area is surrounded by large areas of grass and nice hiking trails that go to scenic areas and old mines. Some of the sites are FHU as was ours. It is important to have reservations as it is quite a popular location. A great place to spend a couple of weeks in the winter although it is somewhat out of the way getting there from the east.
Thanks for your guesses.
