Navajo State Park - Colorado/NM border

Unread postby Limey on Wed Apr 16, 2008 3:05 pm

Here are some pics of the site and lake at Navajo State Park taken August 2007:

The first 3 are from the campsite at the north end of the lake.

This one is looking from the campsite into the campground - see the furry visitor passing through!

This one is the marina at the New Mexico end - 26 miles down lake. My boat in the foreground - my buddy's pontoon boat in the background. DW is on the dock! :):

Great Pics! Is that a bear running around in the campground pic? It sure does look like one.

Yes - it was a young adult. There is a trail between the sites and the lake. I was sitting at the camp table enjoying the view when he stood up on his hind legs about 50ft from me. Frightened the poop out of my DW. I rushed inside the 5er and grabbed the camera. He ran faster than me, so I only got a picture of his rear!

Apparently it is a rare sight at that location. When I told the ranger about it the next day he took a copy of the picture so the Division of Wildlife would have a record!

When there is a bear involved.....the best picture is from the rear! We sure like going to Navajo Lake.

That is very cool! The biggest thing we deal with in this area is bobcats and Gators. We had a 6' gator under the truck when we were in Hilton Head Island, SC last year. I was just glad my kids weren't near the truck when we saw it. When I came up on it, he twisted around and hissed at me. We had to wait him out before we could go to the store. He wouldn't let us get near the truck.

Limey:
Great pictures and a great place to spend some quality time especially in the fall when the crowds have departed. We had some friends meet us there and they rented one of the cabins. They were brand new and very well done. An enjoyable trip in the fall of 06. And yes, the fishing was good also!

I think that once when we were camping at Lake Huron we took a day trip to look at Navaho Lake but my old memory remembers it as Apache lake. Which ever it was it was Southeast from Farmington. Unless there is also an Apache lake South of Farmington that was more than likely the one we visited.
