Here is what you would see if you were headed for Estes Park and passing through Loveland, Co on Hwy 34.

Aren't I lucky??

How's Boyd Lake looking? Thinking about de-winterizing the boat soon! :)

(for non-locals, Boyd lake is only a mile or so from the one in the picture, and is in a Colorado State Park with some decent campsites.)

Limey: Funny you asked as I was there this morning walking my boy Bailey. It was a beautiful morning after a heavy frost last night. The lake is still somewhat low but will be filling soon. Only one campground was open and there were maybe 6-8 units there. I did see an eagle just as I left the park at the adjacent Horseshoe Lake.
As you know It is a great place to spend a few days especially early in the season.

Ahhhh Colorado... My old stomping grounds. I hope to get out there either this summer or next.

I still collect Michael Ricker Pewter figurines. If you get a chance, check out his gallery in Estes Park. Cool stuff.

Nice Pic.

We've tried Boyd Lake a few times for an overnighter when passing through but always found it filled. Had to push on a little more and stay at Horse Tooth on the West side. Nothing fancy but nice and scenic up there.

Skip:
They have since renovated Horsetooth campgrounds and I have heard that they did a good job. Haven't been up there yet as we don't use that facility. It gets a lot of locals and in the past can be somewhat of a noise problem on weekends.
I'm going to be working as a volunteer at the Hermit Park facility in early May for a couple of days. I'll let you know how that is shaping up. That would be a good stop for a couple of days. Estes Park and RMNP would be easily accessable from there. Hermit Park is on Hwy 36 east of Estes Park by about 5-6 miles so you could take Hwy 34 and just before you get to Lake Estes you turn on the road to the left just under the dam and go over and pick up Hwy 36 and turn left on the south side of the dam.
