Photo Hosting Here

Unread postby Little Kopit on Wed Nov 19, 2008 4:12 pm

I understood PP to say that a photo could be hosted here.

But I can't find the section for doing it.

I see the attachment thing, but no hosting.

I haven't checked User CP yet.

I would have expected photohosting to have it's own heading. My logic, not the forum software's, of course.

Thanks again.

I have a strong preference for more detailed information on a link, ie, "Private Pilots instructions on uploading photos" vs. 'here.'

I know some think, that "unprofessional", whereas, I'm the reverse. For example, If it's a government link, it's much more credible if that shows. If it's a fluffy site and I'm pressed for time, I feel safe in taking a short cut for this site visit.

Now, what is missing/ or my eyes are missing, is where those images are stored. Having photos hosted here is many times more effective if you can come back and find them and collect the link and use it at another site. How does one do that?

& how do delete and attachment? On most sites that I visit, if you go in and edit a post you lose the attachment. Not so, here, but I assumed it was so. Hence, I posted one image 2x.

Yes, I know.

I recently had quite a discussion on that issue. It was on my mind . I think it's just a different orientation to the world. To me there is too short. I can't get my head to appreciate those of the 'the shorter the better orientation'.

I appreciate the word 'critique'.

We are not a photo hosting service, so the method that we use to allow members to include photos with their posts does not include the ability to "hotlink" to the images and use them elsewhere - it's designed strictly for inclusions within posts here.

Unlike many (most) other forums, we provide the feature that streamlines adding photos to posts by simply following the procedures and having them uploaded automatically, and then automatically attached to the posts. Compared to the hassle of uploading an image to a hosting service and then using the (complicated for some) codes to insert the image into the post, our method is far easier for most people.

The ability to host images elsewhere and include them in posts here still exists (see my FAQ post) but we do not provide the hosting beyond the built in streamlined system.

That said, it does consume considerable bandwidth and a lot of server power to offer a feature like this, but we are blessed with a beefy server that has the ability to do it, so at this time we offer the feature.

Removing an image from a post you have made is easy - simply use the "Edit" feature to edit your own post and remove the relevant BBCode that is linking the image you want removed.
