New WINDOW when click on link

Unread postby Little Kopit on Thu Nov 13, 2008 12:04 am

In every other forum except one that I go to, when I click on a link, it takes me to a new window.

Oft times when I go to go away from that link, I click close the window and expect to get back to this forum that way.

It's a matter of habits. My habits are made by the vast majority.

Would it be possible to have this forum's software go that way?

Try this....

Open Internet Explorer.
Select Tools from the menu bar.
Click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Uncheck Reuse Windows For Launching Shortcuts (under Browsing).

This forces a new Explorer window to open when clicking a link.

Thanks Limey, but

I use Firefox.

The point is habits. I'd bet I can get a new window just by holding down the shift key, while clicking. But my habit is just click. & often, when finished with that item, just to close that window because I will probably already have another 12 open.

The way it is, I have to do something different. Routines help computer practices work best. & I know that one other place has 0 sympathy.

Oh, and Limey, when you get to know me, you will find that I and the illogic of MS mix as seldom as we may. Bill Gates makes all kinds of money, yet has all these charitable foundations which may or may not do good. Again I find this very illogical. Not to mention their stand on competition..................

On Firefox you can try one of two things, first go to the tools menu and click on options. Open the tabs category and set to " New pages should be opened in: a new tab". If this doesn't work for you, when the pointer is over the link, right click on the link and select "Open in a new tab".

Well, I like new windows.

Tabs don't show down below. With windows one click and you can see what's where.

Any solution needs to be no more than the 1 click I and everyone else use else where.

I could override so it opens a new window when links are clicked, but I'd have to look into what's necessary.

Typically most browsers will allow you to select a window or a tab when this is activated, so adding this option wouldn't force anyone to use an option they don't like. There is no HTML that "opens in a new tab", only "opens in a new window". Opening in a tab instead is a function of a browser setting overriding the order to "open a new window".

Leave it with me. :)

I'm using Firefox and have the setting selected to open in new tabs....doesn't pay any attention to my choice. I figure it's kind of like the "lighter/darker" knob on a lazer printer. Makes you feel like you have some control but actually doesn't do a darn thing :) I think the right click works with IE OR Mozilla though.
