How can I permanently stop

Unread postby Justardnck on Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:38 pm

The subscription, every single thread I post in I get an email when somebody replies to it. I checked my profile and that feature is off. I don't know how to work this new version of PHP yet

If you go back to the user control panel and select the "Board Preferences" tab at the top, then on the left side select the tab "edit posting defaults" and check the bottom item "Notify me upon replies by default:" and make sure it is checked "no"
and I THINK that will solve your problem.

It's already checked but I still get the emails. I stopped it for now by blocking the admin emails of this site but thats gonna cause a problem if you guys wanna email me for something.

When you make a post or response is the option checked below the actual post at the time you make it?

The option in your User Control Panel can be set to "no notifications" by default, but if the checkbox below your post/response is selected "Notify me when a reply is posted" it will override this setting.

It's possible that your browser is checking this box by itself without you noticing. If not, please let me know.

For the record, the board will only send one notification of a response to a thread you've subscribed to and it shouldn't send any more unless you visit that thread again. If you get a response notification to a thread you don't want to follow any longer, you should just be able to ignore it and no further notifications will be sent.

Generally most people do like this feature since it helps you stay on top of threads you've participated in, but I do understand why some would want to disable it.

Let me know if it's not functioning as intended as per the above.

This option is not in my profile, if it is I can't find it.

I am seeing the box checked under every response but I can't stop it from auto checking, I'm an Admin of a Corvette site with phpBB and I have never seen this happen before.

I'm getting an email for every single response to a thread that I have responded to, well over 50. I was deleting them at first but then I found if I filed the email as spam my email blocks any further emails. This will cause you a problem if you need to email me though

I can unblock the email but a guarantee it will continue cause the box is still checked

Hmmm...that's odd. Is anyone else seeing similar behavior?

I know that I get that sort of behavior over at rv.net (I've got hundreds of individual emails on the "3000w Chinese Genset" thread, for example), but it shouldn't happen here.

I toggled a few settings in your account - let me know if that's improved anything.

And as I mentioned, if anyone else is experiencing similar behavior, please let me know.

Ok, I made some changes to the core of the forum software - everyone experiencing this problem should double-check their profile to ensure that the "send by default" option is disabled, and also while making a post.

I had modified some system files a while back that might over unintentionally overridden members abilities to change this preference.

It's still doing it and it's definitely off in my profile

Ok, try this:

Go to your User Control Panel. On the first tab it opens up (overview) you'll see an option on the left for "Manage subscriptions".

Try manually removing the subscriptions to the threads in question, or all of them if you want to reset everything.

It's possible that any subscriptions set before I undid the changes were not reflected in your choice to unsubscribe since. This *should* (I hope!) remedy this.

I'll try that and just as a precaution I'm gonna clear cache and cookies just in case.

Good.

Try subscribing to a few threads now as you respond to them and see if it works properly again now.

It should send you ONE email upon a response no matter how many more responses occur afterwards. Only if you visit the thread will more responses (again, one) be sent.
