Insurance on RVs in Canada

Unread postby Little Kopit on Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:42 am

For the sake of starting a topic, not that I'm looking but, how about saying what kind insurance do you have?

Is it completely separate from your daily driver?

How many provinces does your insurance cover?

Mine is the latter. specific to my TC. As was pointed out when I got the TC, what you may need for an RV can be very different than that as a rider on your auto insurance.

How many provinces: 1.

My auto insurance is with Aviva Traders-General, they won't touch my travel trailer. how odd.
I have seperate insurance with another company for the trailer. Funny thing is it's another branch of Avia.
go figure.....

We have business insurance and vehicle insurance on two trucks, and rv insurance on our secondary fifth wheel that is sold to my buddy on a payment plan, but no insurance on our main fiver. Reason is, the insurance company is now saying that we have to have a house or tenants policy in order to get our new fiver insured???? But we live in our fiver full time.

Wife is working it out.

Our trailer that burned last year, was under our commercial insurance, all I can say is don't do that. 5 grand deductible and nothing inside in the way of personal belongings was covered, it was a expensive lesson.

BRG, what your insurance people are saying, seems to say to me that you need a different insurer, that they are not really in the business of providing policies with as good insurance as you can get. When I was looking five years ago, Ontario had more rv insurance companies than any other province in Canada.

But on the other hand, I wonder if anyone in Canada has tried someone like Coach Net (might be Coachnet). I know the name from full-timers who are quite pleased with their emergency roadside insurance. These folks very recently got almost taken out, while parked, by a car, who's driver was probably texting. Their unit is going back home to Newmar for restoration.

That's kind of strange about Aviva not wanting to insure your trailer. Mine's insured with Aviva Elite. We've got full replacement coverage on everything for only a little more than $400 a year. The nice thing about living in Alberta is that we only ever pay for the trailer registration once and it never has to be renewed. That is, until the government realizes that they're missing out on this revenue.

That's it...Aviva Elite. That's who is insuring my trailer. :D
Aviva Traders General wouldn't touch it.

For registration, same here in Ontario. Register the trailer once, get the plates. That's it.

Too late for BC. Provincial insurance here. Sometimes cheaper than private, sometimes lots more. Mind you it's less than $ 100.00 year for the road part of the insurance for my 5vr. We switched from Aviva to BCAA this year. It was more than $ 100.00 cheaper for the liability, replacement, fire and theft part of the insurance.
Strange that Little Kopit's insurance is only for one province. We can go anywhere in North America.

Cheers

PEI getting the host companies 'at home' rather than buying via broker in another province.

There is no such policy such as the one described by Little Kopit. ALL auto insurance policies issued anywhere in Canada, cover the insured ANYWHERE within continental United States or Canada, or on vessels travelling between interconnecting ports.

If you ever need insurance for living in your RV Fulltime give us a call. Our niche is Snow-Birders and people living in their units full-time. The owner of our company saw the need for this type of insurance because he goes down to Arizona during the winter months. He started RV Direct Insurance in 2002 to focus on the RV Lifestyle. Our website is www.rvdirectinsurance.com If you need a quote you can go online and have a look.
